Type locality. Turkey, Ankara, Kızılcahamam , Gökdere. Holotype: male ( MfN).

Distribution. Known from N. Turkey: along the Köroğlu Mountains in Ankara and Bolu provinces ( Fig. 840 ).

Remarks. The author and the date of this species were given as “ Karabağ, 1949 ” by Karabağ (1958), Weidner (1969), Demirsoy (1973, 1977), Presa & Garcia (1983), Otte (1994), Ünal (1999). But, Karabağ (1949: 66) gave this species for the first time as “ Paranocarodes tolunayi Ram (n.sp.)”. Karabağ also added a short note just below this species: “Identification and description of this species that found by us from 1600 m. height of the Kızılcahamam forests, were made by Ramme”. Therefore it is clear that the author of this species must be Ramme (in Karabağ, 1949).

The holotype of P. atympanicus Ramme is a female nymph though Ramme (1951: 285) did not mention its nymphal state. There are also 1 female nymph of P. tolunayi in the MfN, 1 female nymph in the NHMUK and 3 female nymphs in the AÜZM. They all were compared in detail and concluded that they are certainly identical and probably are members of the same population. Besides, the only known species of Paranocarodes in Ankara province is P. tolunayi . Considering the similarities of the holotype (female nymph) of P. atympanicus it has to be considered synonym of P. tolunayi tolunayi . On the other hand the paratype (adult female) of P. atympanicus from Denizli Province is P. karabagi (see P. karabagi above).
