9.1. Paracarus hexophthalmus ( Redikorzev, 1937) View in CoL
Paracarus hexophthalmus Chamberlin & Mulaik 1942: 126 View in CoL (new status); Hammen, 1968 (redescription); Dunlop et al. 2004 (new diagnosis)
Opilioacarus hexophthalmus Redikorzev, 1936: 10 , figs. 1–4 (original description)
Syntypes: 4 specimens (whereabouts unknown). KAZAKHSTAN, Semiretshje , Alexander mountain range, canyon of the river Tujuk, rocky crash, 22, 28.JUL.1931. coll. Dr. V. Schnitnikov.
Distribution: Semiretshje, Dzhungarskij Alatau ( Kazakhstan).
Note: Hammen redescribed P. hexophthalmus from non-type material from Dzhungarskij Alatau. In addition, according to Hammen (1966), the type would be deposited in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), but the material was not found in the Bregetova collection of the Zoological Institute ( Maria Stanyukovich and Sergey Mironov , pers. com.) or at the University of Tyumen ( Alexander Khaustov and Sergey Ermilov , pers. com.) .
Etymology: From Greek hexa (six) + ophthalmós (eyes), due the presence of six pairs of eyes on the prodorsal shield.
