Description of Kosakonia cowanii KHN 5
Cells are Gram-staining-negative, flagellated, non-pigmented and short rod-shaped. Colonies are circular and cream-colored after 3 days of incubation on R2A at 25°C. Positive for esculin hydrolysis, β -galactosidase, glucose fermentation and nitrates reduction, but negative for arginine dihydrolase, cytochrome oxidase, gelatinase, indole production and urease in API 20NE test. N -Acetyl-glucosamine, L-arabinose, D-glucose, malic acid, D-maltose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, potassium gluconate and trisodium citrate are utilized. Strain KHN5 (= NIBRBAC000497843) has been isolated from gut of Japanese crested ibis ( Nipponia nippon ), Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, Korea.
