Orchamus gracilis (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1882) View in CoL

( Figs. 308–309 View FIGURES 296 – 311 )

Material examined. CYPRUS: Cypern , 1854, 1♀ (Lectotype, here designated) (leg. Lederer) ( NMW); Lemesos, Kourion , 50 m, 10.2.2000, 1♂ (leg. C. Makris) (AİBÜEM); Mt. Troodos , 5800 ft, 19.7.1948, 1♀ (leg. G. A. Mavromaustakis) (NHMUK); Cyprus, Nikosia, 1♀ (det. Ebner as Pamphagus gracilis ) ( NMW) ; LEBANON: Beirut, 1♂ (not a type), 1♀ (not a type) (leg. Lederer) (det. Br. v.W. as Pamphagus gracilis ) ( NMW) .

Remarks. Brunner (1882: 200) described this species after both sexes from Cyprus. It seems from the description that 1 male and 1 female were used as syntypes . Descamps & Mounasiff (1972: 253), Harz (1975: 109) and Massa (2009: 97) showed 1 female from Cyprus as “ holotype ” and 1 male, 1 female from Beirut as “ paratypes ” . In the NMW, 1 female from Cyprus was labelled as holotype and 1 male, 1 female from Beirut were labelled as paratypes, but these are not deemed a valid lectotype designation according to the ICZN (Article 74.5). Therefore the only female from Cyprus in the NMW, previously labelled as “ holotype ” is here designated as lectotype . The only male in the original description is not found in the NMW. Brunner identified himself two specimens from Beirut as “ Pamphagus gracilis ” (see Material examined above), but they (one male and one female from Beirut) cannot be syntypes according to its original description. Thus , they are not paralectotypes .
