The encyrtid wasp, Ooencyrtus papilionis , is the first ever representative of a parasitic wasp species to be associated with genus Bibasis on Hipatage benghalensis (L.). A detailed description of O. papilionis can be found in Huang & Noyes, 1996).
Brief diagnosis. Head and mesosoma brown; head with metallic tinge; scutellum bluish–green with apex metallic green; legs including coxae yellow; metasoma yellow with apical tergites brown, brown coloration more conspicuous laterally; antenna with proximal three flagellomeres transverse, flagellomeres 4–6 a little longer than broad; fronto-vertex one quarter of head width; scutellum with reticulate punctate sculpture anteriorly; ovipositor mildly exserted. Mandibles with a broad truncation and one tooth.
Material examined. One female and one male, INDIA, Nagala Block, SGNP, Thane District, Maharashtra, 30.viii.2012, emerged from eggs of Bibasis jaina (Moore) ( Lepidoptera : Hesperiidae ) on host plant Hiptage benghalensis (L.). coll. Swapnil & Abhay. Three females, sept. 2012, emerged from single egg of B. jaina , coll. Paresh V. Churi. All specimens deposited in National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects (NBAII), Bangalore, India. Code. NBAII/Enc/Ooe/papi/30812.
Host Record. New host record from eggs of Bibasis jaina (Moore) ( Lepidoptera : Hesperiidae ) on host pant Hiptage benghalensis (L.). It has also been reported from other hesperiids, Erionata thrax and Hasora sp. (Noyes 2013) and from various lepidopteran eggs (Huang & Noyes, 1994).
