Chaetostomella sp. possibly C. lurida (Loew, 1844)
Found at 780±1200 m. From Onopordon anisacanthum : 2M and 6F, Ghazze, West Beqaa Co. (Beqaa Valley); 2M and 2F, Chtaura, Zahleh Co. (Beqaa); 6M and 1F, El Khraizat, West Beqaa Co. (Beqaa Valley). From O. illyricum : 4M and 5F, Bhamdoun, Aley Co. (Mount Lebanon); 15M and 14F, Deir El Ahmar, Baalback Co. (Beqaa Valley).
This monophagous species, reared from the ¯owerheads of O. anisacanthum and O. illyricum , is very similar to C. cylindrica , but diOEers in having none, or small and faint brownish, spots at the base of the prescutellar setae, instead of shiny black spots around the base of these setae. The mesonotum has a faint, greyish or tan pattern and not the dark, black pattern of C. cylindrica . Moreover, the aculeus is longer (1.7±1.95 mm; n 515) than that of C. cylindrica (1.4 ±1.8mm; n 515) and the aculeus tip is slightly blunter, although that diOEerence is di cult to appreciate without direct comparison of both species. The type locality of C. lurida is Patara, Turkey, and proper identi®cation will require examination of reared series from that area as well as examination of the type material.
