Types. INDONESIA. Sulawesi: Holotype ♂ ( JBCB): “ Indonesia / Sulawesi / Rantepao / 6.3.87 [h] / Leg. Maier A. [p, w]. Paratype. 1♀ (JBCB), same data as holotype.
Description. Length 11.5–12.3 mm, width 7.0– 8.2 mm. General color ( Figs 10A–10C View FIGURE 10 ) yellowish; antennae yellow but with apical 1/3 of antennomere XI darker; elytra metallic blue but with wide yellow lateral margin. Antennae filiform in males ( Fig. 11A View FIGURE11 ), antennomeres IV longest, V–XI slender, length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.6: 1.6: 1.8: 1.5: 1.4: 1.5: 1.3: 1.2: 1.0: 1.4, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 2.6: 2.0: 4.8: 5.8: 4.9: 4.4: 5.1: 4.6: 4.6: 3.9: 6.8; similar in females ( Fig. 11B View FIGURE11 ), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.6: 1.6: 1.7: 1.4: 1.4: 1.5: 1.3: 1.2: 1.0: 1.6, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 2.6: 1.7: 5.0: 5.1: 4.4: 4.4: 4.8: 4.7: 4.4: 4.0: 4.8. Pronotum transverse, 2.1x wider than long, disc convex but flattened at sides, without reticulate microsculpture, but with sparse, fine punctures; baso- and lateral angles depressed, apico-lateral angles broadly rounded; lateral margin rounded; apical margin slightly concave. Elytra elongate oval, widest at middle, 1.3x longer than wide; disc shining and with reticulate microsculpture and dense, coarse punctures, slightly convex, epipleurae near lateral margins, located 9/10 distance between suture and lateral margins, wide from base to basal 1/5, apically narrowed and abbreviated at apical 1/5; with extremely wide, flattened lateral margins; humeral calli prominent, with transverse depression posterior to calli. Penis ( Figs 11C–11D View FIGURE11 ) slender, 6.9x longer than wide; parallel-sided, apically tapering from apical 1/3; tectum elongate, subapicaly widened; slightly curved in lateral view, slender from apical 1/4 to apex, apex hooked; ventral surface well sclerotized; internal sac without sclerites. Apical margins of abdominal ventrite V in females truncate. Gonocoxae reduced. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 11E View FIGURE11 ) transverse and well sclerotized; apical margin rounded, depressed medially, with dense, long setae along apical margin; spiculum short and broad. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 11F View FIGURE11 ) as wide as pump, connected to pump; pump strongly curved; proximal spermathecal duct separated from receptacle, elongate and wide.
Diagnosis. This new species belongs to the Oides celebensis species group. This includes all species from Sulawesi, including O. bezdeki sp. nov., O. celebensis Duvivier , O. dimidiaticornis Jacoby , O. hsui sp. nov., O. takizawai sp. nov., O. vexilla Duvivier , and O. wangi sp. nov.; and O. vexilla Duvivier from the Philippines. Adults of this group possess elongate, oval elytra, more than or equal to 1.3x longer than wide, and a transverse depression behind the humeral calli.Adults of this species are easily distinguished by their entirely yellow antennae, except the apical half of antennomere XII, and wide, flattened lateral margins of the elytra. The aedeagi of adult males of Oides bezdeki sp. nov. are similar those of O. dimidiaticornis , O. takizawai sp. nov. and O. wangi sp. nov. in possessing an elongate tectum and apically narrowed penis. However, those of O. bezdeki sp. nov. are more similar to those of O. dimidiaticornis in possessing a slender and angular apex of the penis. They differ in possessing an apically broadened tectum and truncate apex of the penis (apically tapering tectum and apex of penis in O. dimidiaticornis ).
Etymology. This new species is dedicated to Jan Bezděk, an excellent leaf beetle taxonomist ( Czech Republic), who assisted us with our research in various ways.
Distribution. Indonesia: Sulawesi.
