Description. Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 449, width 313, height 187, setae: tr 38, in 116, le 88, ro 78, ex 56; notogaster: length 869, width 606, height 626, setae: c 1 152, c 2 116, c 3 40, cp 121, d 1 164, h 1 190, h 3 111, ps 1 182, ps 3 and ps 4 94; genitoaggenital plate 237×136, anoadanal plate 283×116. Paratypes (seven specimens): prodorsum: length 323–439, height 131–212; notogaster: length 566–858, height 404–667.
Large species. Colour brown. Surface of body punctate.
Prodorsum with sigillar fields narrow, median longer than laterals. Lateral carinae distinct, reaching the sinus. Posterior furrows absent. Trichobothria short with rounded, coarse head. Other setae moderately short, smooth, attenuate, interlamellar and rostral setae semierect; in> le> ro> ex> tr.
Notogaster with 15 pairs of long, smooth, attenuate setae but unequal in length, dorsal setae longer than laterals, the shortest are setae c 3, ps 3 and ps 4. Setae c 1 and c 2 slightly remote from anterior margin, setae c 2 more than setae c 1, setae c 3 situated near margin. Vestigial setae f 1 posteriorly of h 1 setae; setae f 2 situated near lyrifissures im. Two pairs of lyrifissures ia and im present.
Venter. Setae h of mentum considerably shorter than distance between them. Formula of genital setae: 5(4+1): 4, setae g 1-4 situated in progenital position. Anoadanal plates each with five setae, two long anal setae, ad 3 shorter, ad 1 and ad 2 vestigial, situated near paraxial border.
Legs. Setation complete. Setae d on femora I remote from distal end of article.
Type material. Holotype GoogleMaps and 7 paratypes: South America , Andes , Central Peru, Huánuco Department, Huánuco Province, Churubamba District , Área de Conservación Privada Unchog , 09°43’55’’S, 76°11’12’’W, 3580 m a.s.l., upper soil and leaf litter in primary mountain forest, Winkler extraction (sample 1.2), 11. IV. 2016, leg. S. Friedrich, F. Wachtel and D. Hauth. GoogleMaps
Etymology. This species is named after the Churubamba District.
Diagnosis. The new species is similar to Notophthiracarus heteropilosus Niedbała, 2004 (from Venezuela) and Notophthiracarus flagellatus Niedbała, 2004 (from Chile) by the long dorsal notogastral setae. It is distinguishable from N. heteropilosus by the setae in three times longer than length of trichobothria (vs. less than twice longer in new species), longer lateral setae of notogaster (vs. shorter) and lateral carinae of prodorsum present (vs. absent). The new species has in, le and notogastral setae smooth (vs. finely spinose in N. flagellatus ).
