Mycotretus cribratus Gorham, 1888: 64 . Type locality: “ Panama, Bugaba”.

Mycotretus cribratus – Kuhnt 1909: 73; 1911: 48. — Blackwelder 1945: 466. — Alvarenga 1994: 23.

Primary type

Lectotype, here designated ( Fig. 16B View Fig )

PANAMA • “ Bugaba, Panama. Champion. [printed] \ Mycotretus cribratus Gorh. [handwritten] \ B.C.A.,Col.,VII. Mycotretus [printed] \ Type [disc-shaped label, printed] \ LECTOTYPE Mycotretus cribratus Gorham, 1888 [red label, printed]”; BMNH.

Other specimens examined

Paralectotypes

PANAMA • 1 spec. (on left, on the same card as lectotype); “ Bugaba, Panama. Champion. [printed] \ Mycotretus cribratus Gorh. [handwritten] \ B.C.A.,Col.,VII. Mycotretus [printed] \ Type [disc-shaped label, printed] \ PARALECTOTYPE Mycotretus cribratus Gorham, 1888 [yellow label, printed]”; BMNH • 8 specs (two on each card); “ Bugaba, Panama. Champion. [printed] \ B.C.A.,Col.,VII. Mycotretus [printed] \ PARALECTOTYPE Mycotretus cribratus Gorham, 1888 [yellow label, printed]”; BMNH.

Distribution

Guatemala, Panama.

Remarks

We observed individuals from Guatemala next to those from Panama, but we did not consider them as syntypes. According to Gorham (1888: 64): “The Guatemalan specimens are apparently referable to the same species; but I regard the Bugaba examples as typical, it being from them that the description is made”. The lectotype and one paralectotype are mounted on the same card and we designated the right-hand one (apparently better preserved, with its six legs intact) as the lectotype. Only the lectotype is shown here ( Fig. 16B View Fig ).
