COMMON NAME (S): Arrow Sphinx hawkmoth , Arrow Sphinx or Prisoner Sphinx Hawkmoth. SYNONYM (S): None. IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE). DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia , Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Livingstone in Southern Province; Kafue and University of Zambia (Lusaka) **, in Lusaka Province; Lower Zambezi Valley in Southern and Lusaka Provinces; Luangwa bridge between Lusaka and Eastern Provinces; Kasempa in Northwestern Province; Mansa in Luapula Province. LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants include: one Moraceae species ( Ficus sp. ) and one Fabaceae species ( Millettia aboensis
(Hook.f.) Baker) in Nigeria ( MacNulty 1970); three Malvaceae species ( Hibiscus panduriformis Burm. f. , Hibiscus sp. and Grewia occidentalis L.) and one Epacridaceae species ( Andersonia sp. ) in South Africa ( Fawcett 1901; Pinhey 1960) and four Malvaceae species ( Hibiscus micranthus L.f., Dombeya rotundifolia (Hochst.) Planch. , D. cymosa Harv. and Grewia damine Gaertn. ) and one Apocynaceae species ( Carissa macrocarpa (Eckl.) A.DC. ) in an unnamed African country or countries (Ķhne 2008).
Without specifying in which of the African countries listed above they occur, the African Moths (2019) website names the following as larval foodplants of the taxon: one Moraceae species ( Ficus sp. ), one Fabaceae species ( Millettia aboensis ), eight Malvaceae species ( Hibiscus sp. , H. micranthus L.f., H. panduriformis Burm.f. , Dombeya rotundifolia (Hochst.) Planch. , D. cymosa Harv. , Grewia damine Gaertn. , G. villosa Willd. and G. occidentalis L.), one Apocynaceae species ( Carissa macrocarpa (Eckl.) A.DC. ) and one yet to be identified Epacridaceae species ( Andersonia sp. ).
