Materialexamined – Femaleholotype: CostaRica , Limon, 7 milesNfromGuacimo, 22 February – 1 March 1988, leg. F. D. Parker. – Holotypeisingoodcondition: (1) glueddirect tothepinbytherightsideofmesosoma; (2) rightforelegandproximalhalfofflagellum lessvisibleowingtothemounting. HolotypeisdepositedintheHNHM, Hym. Typ. No. 12227 .
Etymology – Thenewspeciesreceivedthelatinizedphantasyname “amelot”.
Description of the female holotype – Body 3.3 mm long. Antenna short, as long as head andmesosomacombined (2.2 mmlong). Firstflagellomere 3.3 timesandpenultimateflag- ellomere 1.5 timesaslongasbroad. – Headindorsalviewtransverse (Fig. 10), twiceas broadaslong, eyetwicelongerthantemple, templereceded. OOLone- thirdlongerthan POL, ocellimiddlesized. Eyeinlateralview 2.3 timesashighaswide, genabeyondeye broadeningventrallyandwider (18:14) thaneye, genarugulose (Fig. 12 seearrows). Clypeus 1.5 timesaswidebelowashighmedially, denselypunctateanddull, itslowermargin mediallytruncate (Fig. 11). Malarspace 1.5 timesaslongasbasalwidthofmandible. Face 1.5 timesaswideashigh, rugose. Vertex, occiputandfronsrugose (likeface).
Mesosomainlateralview 1.5 timesaslongashigh, scabrous. Notaulixdistinct. Scutellumpunctate- subfoveolate, interspacesshiny (Fig. 13). Fourdenticulesofpropodeal transversecarinarathersmall (Fig. 14). Hindfemur 3.3 timesaslongasbroadmedially (Fig. 15). Hindbasitarsusaslongastarsomeres 2–3 combined.
Forewingshorterthanbody. 2.7 mmlong. Pterostigmaalmost 2.7 timesaslongas wide, issuing r distally from its middle and almost 0.8 times as long as 3–SR (or 3–SR almost 1.3 timeslongerthan r), SR1 straight, 1–R1 halfaslongaspterostigma (Fig. 16).

Carapaceindorsalview (Fig. 17) twiceaslongasbroadandevenlybroadeningpos- teriorly, longitudinallyandfairlystronglystriated, interstriationscrenulated, hindfourth ofcarapacerugulose. Carapaceinlateralview 3.2 timesaslongashighposteriorly, apicallyrounded (Fig. 18). Carapaceapico-ventrallyweaklyincurved (Fig. 19). Ovipositor sheathaslongashindbasitarsus.
Groundcolourofbodyblack. Scapeandpediceltestaceous, flagellomeres 1–4 darkeningtestaceous, restofflagellumblackishbrown. Palpilightbrownish. Tegulaandpara- tegulablackishtobrown. Forelegyellowishtoyellow, femurbrown, tarsusyellow. Middle leg: coxa + trochantersyellow, femur + tibiabrownishblack, tarsusyellowwithbrownish suffusion. Hindlegblackishtoblack, trochantersyellow, tarsusblackish. Wingshyaline tosubhyaline, marginalcellbrownishfumous. Pterostigmabrown, veinsyellowtolight brown.
Maleandhostunknown.
Distribution – Costa Rica.
Taxonomic position – With the help of McComb’s key to the Nearctic spe- ciesof Microchelonus thenewspeciesrunsto M. periplocae (McComb) , their distinctioniskeyed (couplet-textquotedfromthedescription):
