Metapocyrtus (Orthocyrtus) orbiferoides Schultze, 1918 View in CoL
Metapocyrtus (Orthocyrtus) orbiferoides Schultze 1918: 374 View in CoL , pl. 1, fig. 7, female (type locality: “ LUZON, Ilocos Norte, Mount Nagapatan ”).— Schultze 1925: 180 (diagnosis).
Macrocyrtus imomzodai Barševskis 2016: 156 View in CoL , fig. 1A, B, female (type locality: “ Luzon Isl., Ilocos Norte, Pagudpud ”). NEW SYNONYMY.
Specimens examined. Holotype, female, "Luzon, Ilocos N./Mt.Nagapatan/W.Schultze" (typed on beige card); " Orthocyrtus View in CoL / orbiferoides View in CoL / Schultze / Type /Det.W.Schultze" (hand-written on red card, partially typed); "Coll. W. Schultze/ Ankauf 1942" (typed on pale yellow card); "Staatl. Museum für/Tierkunde Dresden" (typed on white card) ( Figs. 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ). No type specimens were examined for Macrocyrtus imomzodai View in CoL but the habitus images published with the original description clearly support the proposed synonymy.
Distribution. Philippines (Luzon: Ilocos Norte).
Comments. The tribe Pachyrhynchini comprises more than 400 species belonging to 15 genera ( Yoshitake 2013). Presently, however, the classification of the tribe is rather confused with several ill-defined genera and subgenera, as well as with many species and subspecies placed in inappropriate taxonomic positions after their original descriptions. In addition, there are some Pachyrhynchini species placed in some genera belonging to different tribes of the Entiminae. Therefore, one must be very careful to conduct a thorough taxonomic review of Pachyrhynchini weevils prior to description of any new taxa. Comparing the habitus images of the female holotype of Macrocyrtus imomzodai ( Barševskis 2016, p. 156, Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 3 A, B) with that of Metapocyrtus (Orthocyrtus) orbiferoides ( Figs. 1, 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ), there is no doubt that both specimens belong to the same species. The description of M. imomzodai by Barševskis (2016) was inadequate in lacking an overview of known taxa in the entire tribe. The generic and subgeneric placement of M. (O.) orbiferoides warrants attention as well, but its current placement is here retained since redefinitions of the genera Macrocyrtus Heller 1912 , Metapocyrtus Heller 1912 , Nothapocyrtus Heller 1912 , and several subgenera under the three genera are additionally required to resolve these taxonomic issues. The taxonomic position of this species should be revised in a comprehensive revision of the generic and subgeneric classification system of the tribe Pachyrhynchini .
