Diagnosis. The new species is externally similar to M. ascripta (Hampson, 1894) , but can be easily distinguished by its less dark costal margin of forewing, absence of the strongly defined transverse black stripe at M3, narrower forewing and darker hindwing ground colour. In the male genitalia, the new species has apically pointed harpe without dentation and long vinculum, while the harpe of M. ascripta is apically rounded and strongly dentate and the vinculum is remarkably shorter. In the female genitalia, the new species has conspicuously longer ductus bursae and much broader signum than in M. ascripta .
Description. Adult ( Figs. 1, 3 View FIGURES 1 – 16. 1 – 4 ). Wingspan 20–30 mm. Head grayish white; antenna brown, bipectinate in male, filiform in female; labial palpus short. Thorax brown with whitish suffusion. Abdomen dark brown. Forewing ground color grayish white; costal margin brown from postmedial line to forewing base; basal line poorly visible; antemedial line grayish brown, excurved and arcuate; medial line light, running very close to postmedial line and parallel to it; postmedial line grayish brown, rather wavy, interrupted; subterminal line poorly visible; cilia grayish brown. Hindwing dark grayish brown, more or less unicolorous. Male genitalia ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 16. 1 – 4 ): Uncus broad at base, then tapering, hooked at apex, almost as long as tegumen; tegumen medium broad; valva elongated, rather narrow; cucullus knifepoint-shaped, evenly arched and covered with fine hairs; costal margin sclerotized and slightly humped at basal part; sacculus small; harpe robust, elongated, apically pointed, with smooth surface; vinculum very long and broad, 2 times as long as tegumen. Aedeagus very long, narrow, dentate at apex; vesica without cornuti. Female genitalia ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 16. 1 – 4 ): Papillae anales small; apophyses posteriores thin and long; apophyses anteriores shorter than posteriores; ostium bursae simple, slightly sclerotized; ductus bursae strongly sclerotized, thin, as long as corpus bursae; corpus bursae ovoid, membranous, with transverse and very broad, transverse signum band; appendix bursae smaller than corpus bursae.
Distribution. China (Guangdong, Hainan, Taiwan, Jiangxi, Linping).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the name of its sister species, M. ascripta (Hampson, 1894) .
