Megalopinus heissi Puthz View in CoL
( Figs 13–18 View FIGURES 13–18 )
Megalopinus heissi Puthz, 1997: 7 View in CoL , fig. 1.
Material studied: CE Madagascar: 1 ♂, Parc Anjozorobe Angavo , circuit trail to parking place, -18.4070 / 47.9445, ~ 1300 m, rainforest, from vegetation, leg. R GoogleMaps . Ruta ( MNHW) .
Remarks. This species was previously known to occur in Montagne D’Ambre N.P., in the northernmost area of the island. Similarly as for M. lemur , the new finding extends its distribution to the central-eastern region of Madagascar.
Proportions and shapes of body parts, pigmentation and puncture pattern do not differ between the holotype (studied as a high-resolution photograph) and the newly collected specimen, except for the antennal clubs, which in the male from Anjozorobe are not distinctly darkened. The aedeagus of the newly found specimen ( Figs 16−18 View FIGURES 13–18 ) dif- fers from that illustrated by Puthz (1997) in minor details, mainly in the pair of small, elongate submedian sclerites not separated, but touching at middle. This seems to be either a variation or a result of misplacement of endophallic structures during preparation.
