( Figs. 33 View FIGURE 33 H–J)
Diagnostic remarks. A medium-sized, non-descript green katydid, with hind wings barely surpassing the tegmina ( Fig. 33J View FIGURE 33 ); the tegmina are distinctly shiny and quite strongly sclerotized, rigid. The male cerci are long and slender ( Fig. 33H View FIGURE 33 ), incurved when seen from above ( Fig. 33I View FIGURE 33 ). This species is similar in its overall appearance to Catoptropteryx aurita but can be distinguished by much longer cerci in the male and by fully developed, long and slender ovipositor in the female. The tympana on the front tibia are bilaterally closed.
Distribution and natural history. M. eriki was recently described from Tanzania ( Hemp 2017a) and finding it in central Mozambique significantly extends its known range. In Gorongosa this species is uncommon, found only in the canopy of the tall Brachystegia miombo woodland. The call of the Mozambican population is unknown.
Measurements (2 males). body w/wings: 48.7–50.1 (49.41); body w/o wings: 28–30.5 (29.31.8); pronotum: 7–7.6 (7.3.4); tegmen: 40.5–41.8 (41.2.9); hind femur: 23.1–23.4 (23.3.2) mm.
Material examined (2 specimens). Mozambique: Sofala, Cheringoma, Coutada 12, Chironde camp, elev. 156 m (-18.32780, 35.35799), 25.iii.–4.iv.2017, coll. P. Naskrecki, J. Guyton & M. Castene— 2 males ( EOWL) GoogleMaps .
