ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 17 (key), 20 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi … in collibus [ Parmese territory ( Italy) … on hills]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing right mid- and hind-legs), 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold, missing forelegs) ( MZUF: Box 14): Masicera Macq. / girovaga [sic!] Rnd. / 739; 1 ♀, syntype (missing abdomen, both mid- and hind-legs; its puparium pinned below specimen) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Masicera Maq. girovaga [sic!] Rnd. 101 ♀ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 2, posiz. A-4 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Drino vicina (Zetterstedt, 1849) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 208) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 20) described both sexes of Masicera gyrovaga without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of length. We found three syntypes in the MZUF.
