Martiodrilus (Maipure) gaucheri sp. nov.
Holotype. HNHM AF /5381, well preserved, intact, clitellate specimen, French Guiana, Mt. Kaw 303 m, primary forest. Leg. T. Pavlíček, 20 December 2008.
Paratype. HNHM AF /5380, one adult ex. Locality and date are the same as that of the Holotype. Derivatio nominis. The species is named after Philippe Gaucher ( CNRS Guyane, Guyane Française), biologist, herpetologist, and supporter of our biodiversity project.
Diagnosis. L. 165–190 mm, D. 9–10 mm. No. segments 109–114. Color dark brown-violet dorsally and pale ventrally. Clitellum ½15–½27 saddle-shaped. Tubercles long bands on ¾19–¾27, 27. Muscular gizzard in 6, calciferous glands composite-tubular, eight pairs in 7–14. Typhlosole moderate, ribbed tube. Hearts in 10–11, oesophageal. Testes and funnels in 10, 11, enclosed in perioesophageal testis sacs. Vesicles in 11, 12, large. Spermathecae five pairs in 5/6–9/10, elongated, sac-shaped.
External characters. Holotype, length 165 mm, diameter 9 mm, number of segments 109.
Paratype, length 190 mm, diameter 10 mm, number of segments 114. Color brown-violet dorsally becoming abruptly pale from below cd. Prostomium with a small proboscis. Setae ab and cd begin from segment 4 and 5, respectively, closely paired, setal arrangement after the clitellum aa:ab:bc:cd:dd = 9:1.75:20:1:55. Setae ab of segments 19 and 24 modified to genital setae. Nephropores just above the setal line d. Spermathecal pores five pairs in 5/6–9/ 10 in setal line c. Female pores on the rim of segment 15 near 14/ 15 in setal line b. Male pores on the tubercles in 20/21. Clitellum on ½15–½27, tubercula pubertatis as yellowish bands on ¾19–¾27, 27 ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ). Genital setae of the Holotype 1.5-1.6 mm long, 0.07 mm in diameter, slightly sigmoid with 13–14 crescentic indentations ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ).
Internal characters. All septa membranous. Crop large S-shaped in 4–5, strong muscular gizzard in 6. Eight pairs of composite-tubular calciferous glands attached to the oesophagus in 7–14. The first tree glands in 7–9 moderately large, kidney-shaped with medial appendix, the next two in 10–11 smaller, pear-shaped with apical appendix, the last three in 12–14 large with lateral appendix ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ). Intestine begins in 18, typhlosole moderately large triple-lobed tube protruding about one-third into the intestine’s cavity. Vascular system with a simple ventral trunk and a dorsal trunk, moniliform between 12–17 with two large heart-like swellings in 16, 17. From these swellings two pairs of vessels run into the intestine. Three pairs of lateral commissures in 7–9 and two pairs of large oesophageal hearts in 10, 11. Excretory system holoic with simple praeseptal nephrostoma and biramous nephridial bladders. Ovaries and ovarial funnels not found. Two pairs of testes and funnels in 10, 11 enclosed in perioesophageal testis sacs. Vesicles large in 11, 12. Spermathecae five pairs in 6–10 with large multiple-folded tubular ampoule and without distinct duct ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ).
Remarks. The new species resembles M. (Mp.) duodenarius ( Michaelsen, 1918) , however, differs by its fewer number of spermathecae and larger size (115–135 by 4–5 mm in M. (Mp.) duodenarius and 165–190 by 9–10 mm in M. (Mp.) gaucheri ) ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ).
