Diagnosis. Male palp with short VTA and RTA, both apically curved, RTA strongly sclerotized, bulb flat; embolus short, beak-shaped ( Figs 12. e–g, j View FIGURES 12 a – l ). Female epigyne: atrium with distinct black margin, semicircular; spermathecae pyriform. ( Figs 12 h–i, k–l View FIGURES 12 a – l ).
Variation. Total length: males: 2.80–3.30 (n = 21); females: 3.00–3.80 (n = 86). The body colors vary greatly in size and pigmentation among observed specimens.
Distribution. Korea, Japan, Nepal, Russia, China (Jilin Province; recorded also from Gongshan, Fugong, Tengchong, Lushui, and Longling Counties and Baoshan City of Yunnan Province).
Remarks. This species is widely distributed from Bhutan, Nepal, through China to Japan and Russia. The abdominal dorsum markings vary greatly from grayish yellow with some small white and black spots to large black markings with small black spots. This species is very similar to L. niger Ono, 1979 ; but can be separated from the latter by: epigyne without a sclerotized plate (epigyne with a sclerotized plate in L. niger ). Although both species vary greatly in abdominal markings, the dorsal shield of prosoma usually gray with black lateral stripes (always mostly black in L. niger ).
