Luehea villosa Martius (1826: 102) View in CoL .
Type:— BRAZIL. Bahia: without locality, “Aprili”, Martius s.n. (holotype M! [ M0210186 ]) . [= Luehea candicans Mart. ]
The original specimen (Martius s.n.) was collected in April, in the state of Bahia. Cunha (1985) indicated a specimen in M as the holotype, but it was neither seen nor specifically identified. We found only one specimen of L. villosa collected by Martius (s.n.) and preserved in Herbarium M, where his collection is located ( Stafleu & Cowan 1976 –1988: 325). We accept it as the holotype of L. villosa , since it has the original data of the protologue and the identification with the handwriting of Martius. There are no duplicates in other herbaria. Based on our study of this collection, we confirm this name as a heterotypic synonym of L. candicans , as previously accepted by Burret (1926).
