Bordoni, 2002: 324 [as a new nomen of Indoscytalinus malaisei Scheerpeltz, 1965: 197 ; type locality: northeast Burma, Kambaiti, 7000 ft (2134 m)].

Syn.: Indoscytalinus malaisei Scheerpeltz, 1965: 197 [as Indoscitalinus , type locality: northeast Burma, Kambaiti, 7000 ft (2134 m)]; Herman, 2001: 3765 ( Indoscytalinus ; catalogue); Bordoni, 2002: 324 ( Liotesba ; replaced, as junior homonym of Liotesba malaisei Scheerpeltz, 1965: 201 ).

Material examined. male, with labels as follows: “ Holotypus ”/“N.E. BURMA, Kambaiti , 7000 ft, 2.VI.1934, R. Malaise”/“ Indoscitalinus Malaisei , det. Scheerpeltz. 1941”/“Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet, Stockholm Loan no 257/93”/ “4462 E91”/“ Liotesba enthymema n.n., det. Bordoni, 1993.”/“NHRS-COLE 000008106”/. ( NHRS) .

Description

Measurement. BL = 15.90 mm, FL = 8.90 mm, HL = 2.50 mm, HW = 2.15 mm, PL = 3.00 mm, PW = 2.10 mm, EL = 3.00 mm, EW = 2.60 mm.

Body nearly cylindrical, large-sized. Body black, except abdominal segment VII and VIII reddish. Legs dark brown, except tarsi much lighter in colour. Antennae dark brown, basal three antennomeres smoother and darker than remaining antennomeres. Maxillary and labial palpi brown.

Head. Subrectangular (HL to HW ratio 1.2), tempora parenthesis-shaped, posterior angles rounded. Dorsal integument shiny, rather smooth, extensively bearing micropunctures, with few sparsely scattered punctures on the lateral third and the posterior third of head, also with a row of large punctures on deflexed portion of tempora. Each side of cranium with anterolateral puncture near antennal insertion, midlateral puncture approximately a distance of two punctures’ diameter from dorsal margin of eye, temporal puncture at the posterior one-fifth, and occipital puncture at the lateral one-third. Frontal furrows relatively long and deep, anteocular furrows absent. Eye medium-sized, slightly shorter than half the length of tempora (eye: tempora = 0.53: 1.10 mm), distinctly protruding laterad; two large and one small punctures next to dorsal margin of eye. Epistoma distinctly broad, subrectangular. Distance between antennal insertions 0.50 mm being shorter than distance from antenna to eye (0.75 mm).

Antennae. Scape stout, thickened apically, slightly longer than three subsequent antennomeres combined, 1.05 mm; antennomere II elongate, 0.25 mm; III distinctly elongate, observably longer than II, 0.35 mm; IV and V subequal in length, 0.23 mm; last antennomere short, 0.43 mm, distinctly shorter than two preceding antennomeres combined.

Mouthparts. Labrum transverse, with a pair of median teeth, and a lateral tooth at each side, which distinctly protruding forwards. Mandibles falciform, right one with a sharp tooth on inner edge. Maxillary palpus elongate, last segment subcylindrical, apex subtruncated.

Neck. Narrow (0.75 mm), about one-third the width of head.

Pronotum. Subrectangular (PL to PW ratio 1.4), longer than head, but same in width. Slightly widened anteriad, lateral margins substraight, anterior angles well defined, posterior angles broadly rounded. Integument extensively covered with micropunctures, with two large punctures on each anterolateral corner, and one large puncture on each posterolateral corner, and also with additional irregular punctures near anterior and lateral margins of pronotum.

Mesoscutellum. Shiny, with three pairs of punctures lined in two rows.

Elytra. Subrectangular, elongate (EL to EW ratio 1.2), distinctly wider than pronotum, but equal in length. Humeri well developed, lateral margins divergent posteriorly, hind margin rounded. Dorsal integument shiny, flattened, without microsculpture; each elytron with one or two rows of small punctures along median suture, one or two rows of denser punctures along midwidth, also with three or four rows of punctures on deflexed portion.

Legs. First four segments of protarsi heart-shaped, dilated, and those of mesotarsi and metatarsi slender. Last segment of protarsi and mesotarsi shorter than the II–IV, respectively; last segment of metatarsi subequal to the length of II–IV.

Abdomen. Cylindrical, broadest at segment VI. Tergites III–VII shiny, each segment covered with shallow transverse microstriae, and small, sparsely scattered punctures, distance between punctures about two to three punctures’ diameter. Each tergite with a basal impression near anterior margin, without any punctures and microsculpture. All abdominal sternites shiny, with microstriae and punctures as those on tergites.

Remarks. The holotype name was checked and Scheerpeltz had been misspelled “ Indoscytalinus Heller, 1900 ” as “ Indoscitalinus ”, as Herman (2001) reported. This species can be distinguished from its congeners by the body coloration, the broad head, very few, sparsely scattered punctures on the head and the unique internal sac of the aedeagus.
