Lindernia srilankana L.H. Cramer & Philcox (1974: 35) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated here):— SRI LANKA. Eastern Province: Batticaloa District: Panichchankeni, along Valaichchenai-Trincomalee
Rd., Sea Level, 4 January 1973, L.H. Cramer, S. Balasubramaniam & D.D. Tirvengadum 4000 (PDA, digital image!). Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 = Lindernia calemeriana Sivarajan (1983: 351) , syn. nov. Type: — INDIA. Tamil Nadu: Point Calemere, from the premises of Forest Department Rest House, 22 December 1982, Sivarajan CU
36411 (holotype CAL!; isotypes MH!, CALI!). Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 .
Note:— Cramer and Philcox (1974) while describing L. srilankana , cited “ Cramer & Balasubramanium 3629 ” as the holotype, housed at PDA and isotypes at K and US. In addition, Cramer provided a statement of examination of additional materials from type locality as well as “ the foot of Gunner’s Quoin, Polonnaruwa district, North Central Province ” and cited a specimen numbered “ Cramer 4000 ”, housed at CAL, PDA and US. As part of the present study, we communicated with the authorities of the above said herbaria for the materials cited in the protologue and came to know that the type specimens are no longer available. However, we could trace out a herbarium sheet from PDA with a slip bearing a handwritten annotation “ CR 4000 ” as mentioned in the protologue. It is very clear from the printed label pasted on the sheet that the material is one of the original collections by authors from the type locality. Since the originally designated type specimens are missing, the sheet bearing the accession number “ CR 4000 ” is selected for designating as lectotype. On the sheet three individuals are found well mounted. The characters fit well with the original description. Hence, we designate “ CR 4000 ” as Lectotype of L. srilankana L.H. Cramer & Philcox.
