Redescription. Measurements (n=30): WH: 0.75–0.85; LH: 0.55–0.6; LA: 2.2–2.4; LE: 0.2–0.25; LT: 0.1; LP: 0.75–0.9; WPmax: 0.85–0.95; WPmin: 0.65–0.75; LES: 1.45–2.1; WE: 1.35–1.65; WA(IV): 1.3–1.5; LAE: 0.75–0.9; TL: 4.0–4.95 (holotype: 4.55).
Forebody and abdomen brown to black; each elytron with distinct or indistinct yellow to red brown macula in anterior third, which may occupy half length of elytron not reaching suture (specimens from Iran without elytral maculae), some specimens with paler (yellow to red brown) areas in posterior-lateral portions (Figs. 21−26); ocelli, antennae and legs (some specimens with darker apex of femuri) brown; mouthparts, sometimes base of antennomeres I−III, tarsi yellow. Pubescence of forebody tender, long, yellow; pubescence of abdomen shorter and tenderer, decumbent. Head with insignificantly convex frons and vertex, 1.3−1.4 times as wide as long, with large prominent eyes; eyes twice longer than temples; ocelli distinct, small; distance between ocelli slightly shorter than distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eye. Punctation deep, regular; interspaces between punctures without microsculpture, glossy. Antennae long ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 4–11 ), reaching anterior third of elytra; measurements of antennomeres (holotype): I: 0.22 × 0.1; II: 0.15 × 0.075; III: 0.17 × 0.072; IV: 0.155 × 0.072; V−VIII: 0.175 × 0.072; IX: 0.175 × 0.073; X: 0.175 × 0.074; XI: 0.24 × 0.074. Pronotum small, convex and transverse, 1.3 times longer than head, widest in anterior third, without discal impressions. Punctation larger and deeper than that on head, regular; interspaces between punctures as wide as diameter of one–two puncture, without microsculpture, glossy. Scutellum with several small punctures; interspaces between punctures without microsculpture. Elytra long, twice longer than pronotum, convex, hind margins broadly rounded. Punctation denser and larger than that on pronotum, regular; interspaces between puctures as wide as diameter of two punctures, without microsculpture, glossy. Wings fully developed. Tarsomere I of metatarsus slightly shorter than combined length of tarsomeres II−III, as long as tarsomere V. Abdomen convex, slightly narrower than elytra; abdominal tergites with very fine indistinct punctation and with isodiametric microsculpture; abdominal tergites V−VI with paired tomentose spots.
Male. Protarsi with dilated tarsomeres I−IV. Sternite VIII with emarginate posterior margin. Aedeagus ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 42–44 ) relatively wide, narrowing in apical third to nipple-shaped apex; parameres slightly longer than apex of aedeagus; endophallus with several spines and paired sclerotized structures overlapping with each other in apical parts. Aedeagus laterally as in Fig. 43 View FIGURES 42–44 . Parameral surface of median lobe of aedeagus as in Fig. 44 View FIGURES 42–44 .
Female. Protarsi with tarsomeres not dilated. Sternite VIII without emarginated posterior margin.
Comparative notes. Based on the presence of maculae on each elytron and by the character of punctation, L. maculipennis is similar to L. binotata and L. schawalleri sp.n. From L. binotata it differs by the larger maculae on elytra, shorter antennomeres and tarsomere I of metatarsus, as well as by the moderately wider pronotum. L. maculipennis differs from L. schawalleri sp.n. by the lighter coloration, shorter antennomeres and shorter tarsomere I of metatarsus.
Remarks. L. maculipennis was described by Luze (1903) from "Brussa" (Western Turkey, Bursa province) as an "infraspecies" of L. longoelytrata . Luze (1903) did not specify whether this taxon was a subspecies, variety, form or abberation ( Herman, 2001). Bernhauer et Schubert (1910) cited this taxon in their catalog as a variety of " L. longelytrata ". Smetana (1967) reported this taxon as a valid species, compared it with L. longoelytata and L. binotata and recorded from Western Turkey, Mersin province, Yeniköy, Toros (several specimens from Smetana’s paper are listed in the Material section above). The species was recorded by Bordoni (2010) for Bolu, Kahramanmaraş, Adana and Manisa provinces. It is here recorded for the first time from Russia, Iran, Labanon, as well as from Gümüşhane, Erzurum and Muş provinces of Turkey.
