References. Klimaszewski et al. 2004, 2018.
Distribution. Nearctic. Canada: NB, NS, ON, QC. USA (NCR): NH (NCR, NSR).
Collection and Habitat data. The NH specimens were captured from October to March, with all but one taken on the side of a water tower near a freshwater marsh; no other collecting data. The months in which taken suggest a winter-active species. In Canada found in mature and old sugar maple ( Acer saccharum Marsh. ), white pine ( Pinus strobus Linnaeus ), jack pine ( Pinus banksiana Lamb. ), red pine, silver maple, red spruce ( Picea rubens Sarg. ), red maple, and mixed forests). Taken by Lindgren funnel traps in many of these forests ( Klimaszewski et al. 2004. 2018). Adults found in the subcortical galleries of scolytines including (chiefly) Ips pini (Say) , Polygraphus rufipennis (Kirby) , Pityogenes hopkinsi Swaine , Orthotomicus caelatus (Eichoff) , Dryocoetes affaber (Mannerheim) , Crypturgus borealis (Swaine) , and C. pusillus (Gyllenhal) ; on fallen limbs and trunks of pines, spruce, and various hardwoods in the above forests ( Klimaszewski et al. 2004). Sampling during the winter months (XII, II, III) revealed that the adults are quite active diurnally ( Klimaszewski et al. 2004). In NB active adults were captured under bark of a spruce log on Feb. 1, 2006 on a sunny day (+2°C) when there was a deep snow pack ( Klimaszewski et al. 2018).
Material. USA, New Hampshire, Rockingham Co.: Hampton , 3.IV.1910, S.A. Shaw, 1 male . Strafford Co.: 1 mi SW Durham , 1.II.1989, 1 female ; 27.III.1988, 1 female ; 28.X.1988, 1 female; 17.XII.1984, 1 female, W.J. Morse, water tower.
Comments. This species was accidentally listed as occurring in the US (IA, MS, OH, PA and TX) ( Klimaszewski et al. 2004), but this was an error and no specimens were listed in the Appendix of that paper. The above specimens from NH are the first record of the species from the United States.
