(Figs. II-2, V-2, XV-2)

Lemula nishimurai Seki, 1944: 25 View in CoL . Type locality: Mt. Kifune, Kyoto Pref., Japan.—A. Saito, 1989: 78, fig. 15.—N. Ohbayashi, 2007: 362, pl. 6, figs. 5, 6.

Lemula hiratai Hayashi, 1944: 23 View in CoL , 27, fig. 3. Type locality: Kanmuri, Hiroshima Pref., Japan.

Diagnosis. Male: BL = 6.3–8.0 mm. Head black with reddish yellow mouth parts; antennae mostly black except for pale apex of last antennomere; pronotum reddish brown though often getting lighter along apical and basal margins; scutellum reddish brown and sometimes getting darker medially; elytra shiny reddish yellow; underside of body mostly black except reddish yellow apical margin of abdominal ventrite V; legs mostly black. Head and pronotum furnished with brownish short hairs; elytra with slanted uniform short hairs which are nearly as long as space between punctures.

Head densely covered with small punctures on vertex to occiput; antennae reaching apical third of elytra.

Pronotum distinctly shorter than width across lateral tubercles (PL/PW = 0.87), moderately covered with large punctures, strongly constricted at a short distance behind apex with a distinct round tubercle at middle of each side; disk distinctly inflated on both side of median longitudinal impression.

Elytra broad (EL/EW = 1.87), disk with moderately spaced small punctures.

Endophallus (Type B). Dorsal view: CT swollen, ds forming anchor-shaped plate with apically opened lrs, PB expanded laterally near pc, then strongly constricted distally with opaque three elongate dm; APH swollen distally. Lateral view: CT moderately inflated ventrally; PB weakly inflated with colored area at distal half of ventral side; APH oval.

Female: BL = 6.4–9.3 mm; PL/PW = 0.89; EL/EW = 1.78. Similar to male but body more robust; antennae short, reaching basal third of elytra.

Remarks. We have not yet located the holotype of L. nishimurai Seki, 1944 in Japanese public institutions. However, we do not designate a neotype because the name-bearing type is so far not necessary to define the nominal taxon objectively ( ICZN, 1999, Art. 75.1). On the other hand, the syntypes of L. hiratai Hayashi, 1944 (a synonym of L. nishimurai ) were found.
