Lemula View in CoL sp. 3: Chou, 2008: 370.

Diagnosis. Male: BL = 5.7–7.9 mm. Head and pronotum black to dark violet with bluish or greenish tint, but the pronotum rarely take on reddish color; antennomeres I–V bronzy black with greenish or bluish tint, and VI–XI mostly dark brown; scutellum black; elytra brilliant cobalt blue to blue green, but sometimes turn to grayish green or pale brown; legs with femora bluish or greenish black, and tibiae and tarsi bronzy; ventral side with pro-, meso- and metasterna dark green, abdominal ventrites mostly yellowish though sometimes ventrites I–II more or less darkened. Head and pronotum sparsely provided with short dark hairs except for long flying pale hairs on clypeus and tempora. Elytra moderately furnished with short suberect pale hairs which are as long as space between punctures. Legs with tibiae furnished with subrecumbent setaceous hairs.

Head and pronotum finely sparsely punctured; antennae long, reaching apical two-fifths of elytra.

Pronotum barely shorter than width across lateral tubercles (PL/PW = 0.97), strongly constricted at a short distance behind apex with a blunt round tubercle at middle of each side; disk slightly inflated on both side of median longitudinal impression.

Elytra longer than twice humeral width (EL/EW = 2.09); disk with moderately spaced punctures.

Endophallus (Type A). Dorsal view: CT swollen, ds situated on the border of CT and PB escutcheon-shaped plate surrounded by U-shaped lds; PB tube-like; APH elongate oval with slight median constriction. Lateral view: CT well inflated ventrally; PB tube-like structure with ventrally swollen colored distal corner; APH rice-bag shaped.

Female: BL = 5.7–8.4 mm, PL/PW = 0.95; EL/EW = 2.06. Antennae slightly exceeding middle of elytra. Pronotum as long as width at lateral tubercles; elytra slightly widened posteriorly to apical fifth. Abdominal ventrites always entirely yellowish.

Distribution. Taiwan (New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Yilan, Taichung, Nantou, Kaohsiung, Taitung, Pingtung).

Ecology. Flight period: February–June. Flower records: Litsea , Castanopsis , Fagus , Prunus , Symplocos , Hydrangea , Machilus .

Remarks. This species is widely distributed at middle altitudes of Taiwan. It resembles L. formosana sp. nov. in general appearance, but the structure of endophallus belongs to Type A instead of Type C, and also the elytra are more than twice as long as the humeral width.

Lemula longipennis Shimomura, 1979 described from Mt. Lalashan was distinguished from L. coerulea or L. cyanipennis by black head and prothorax, longer and dull dark green elytra, etc. The specific name, “ longipennis “ means long elytra. However the specimens collected at Mt. Lalashan are identical with L. longipennis in proportion and structure of endophallus except for rather rare dark green color of elytra. As a result, the difference of elytral color is thought to be local variation, and here we synonymized L. longipennis with L. cyanipennis . This species is somewhat rare at Mt. Lalashan where L. formosana formosana is dominant.
