Glabrous perennial; stem 10-40cm, not winged; roots fusiform, fleshy. Leaves usually almost digitate, without tendril; leaflets 1-2 pairs, 15-80x2-8 mm, linear; stipules 6-8 x 0-5-1 mm, lanceolate, semi-sagittate. Racemes 4- to 10-flowered. Calyx-teeth slightly unequal; corolla 15-30 mm, bright reddish-purple. Legume 40-70 x 5-9 mm, brown, glabrous. Seeds 5-7, smooth; hilum f of the circumference. 2m = 14. S.E. Europe, S. Italy.
