Synonyms: Lasiurus (Lasiurus) funebris Fitzinger 1870 ; Lasiurus (Lasiurus) noveboracensis Erxleben 1777 ; Lasiurus (Lasiurus) quebecensis Yourans 1930 ; Lasiurus (Lasiurus) rubellus Palisot de Beauvois 1796 ; Lasiurus (Lasiurus) rubra Ord 1815 ; Lasiurus (Lasiurus) rufus Wardern 1820 ; Lasiurus (Lasiurus) tesselatus Rafinesque 1818 .
Distribution: E North America, Bermuda.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Lasiurus , borealis species group. Does not include blossevillii , frantzii, teliotis, and varius ; see Schmidly and Hendricks (1984), Baker et al. (1988 a), and Morales and Bickham (1995). Does not include degelidus ( Baker et al., 1988 a) but might include minor . Does not include pfeifferi ; see Morales and Bickham (1995). See Shump and Shump (1982 a) but note that they included blossevillii and its synonyms in borealis .
