Lasiophticus gemellarii Rondani, 1846 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1846c: 157.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ ad montem Aetnam [near Mount Etna (Sicily, Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MSNPV): Lasiophthicus [sic!] gemellarii Rnd. , Sicilia .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Scaeva albomaculata ( Macquart, 1842) View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 40, Belcari et al. 1995a: 8).

REMARKS: Rondani (1846c: 157) described Lasiophticus gemellarii without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens collected by G. G. Gemellaro. Rondani (1857: 142) mentioned describing Lasiophticus gemellarii from a single male from Sicily, but there are two males and two females in the MZUF (Box 5, n° 231), one male in the MSNPV and one female in the MZUB labeled “Sicilia” [= Sicily]. The three females are not types because of their sex, the two MZUF males are not types because they are labeled, respectively, “Asch 19 6.1876”, “Asch 14 1869 5” [= Aš, Czech Republic] by F. Kowarz and later donated to Rondani ( Hennig 1974c: 905, Claussen & Thomson 1996: 280). The only specimen clearly from Sicily is the male in the MSNPV. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Lasiophticus , which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Lasiopthicus Rondani, 1845 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 102).
