Key to the known Laena species from China (exclude L. confusa ) modified from that of Schawaller (2008) and Wei & Ren (2018)
Since members of Laena are flightless, most of them are stenochoric, distribution is quite useful for a preliminary determination. Here we added type localities of all known Chinese species after their scientific name, respectively. Type localities of species described before 2001 were summarized by Schawaller (2001), except that of L. ovipennis Schuster, 1926 found in Schawaller & Aston 2017. Type localities of later species are found in their original descriptions ( Schawaller 2008; Schawaller & Aston 2017; Zhao & Ren 2012a; Zhao & Ren 2012b; Wei & Ren 2018; Makhan 2018).
Laena confusa Löbl & Schawaller, 2008 from Anhui Province was not included in the key, because the original description in Li & Wang, 1993 is inadequate to distinguish it from other species. Its type material was claimed to be deposited in the ‘ Coleoptera laboratory of Dashiqiao Agricultural Technology Popularization Center (ĽṪLƁ ŘṃwḣḋỮOEĿaeÜUDmOiẊṁ)’, but the author was unable to locate it.
