Fig. 108
DESCRIPTION. — Integument dull, dark brown, antennae reddish brown. Scaling dense, brown on pronotum, and basal one-third and middle of sides of elytra, pronotum ornamented with fine pale lines, one from hind angle to middle of apex, one on midline, one across middle as far as oblique lines, and a line on either side from in front of interstria 4 to junction of oblique and cross lines; elytra with a broad, oblique, yellow stripe towards a second tuft of setae of interstria 3, and with a yellowish white declivity; fore femora white, ochrous and brown, middle and hind femora black at base and middle, white elsewhere; elytra with one tuft of erect setae on suture at top of declivity, three tufts on interstria 3, two tufts on 5, a rudimentary tuft on 7 behind shoulders, and one at junction of interstriae 3 and 9; prosternum, fore coxae and sides of metasternum yellowish white and ochrous, tibiae also ochrous.
Head ochrous but yellowish against eyes, with two minute bare dots; furrow behind eyes obscured by dense scales. Forehead slightly wider than rostrum in middle, largely brown, fovea indistinct. Rostrum cylindrical. Gently curved right through; postrostrum on basal half punctate and squamose, prerostrum smooth dorsally, finely punctate laterally. Antennal insertion at apical one-third of rostrum, all segments of funicle elongate; club elongate elliptic, nearly 3 x as long as wide.
Prothorax widest at base, gently converging to middle, then convex and a weak sinus towards distinct collar; disc convex lengthwise and across, impunctate, collar with some puncta. Scutellum relatively large, elevated with a little point slightly above level of elytra nearby, surrounded by a distinct elytral rim.
Elytra conical, much wider than prothorax, converging in straight line to a jointly rounded apex, moderately compressed, rather weakly sibuous at base. Striae sulcate, coarsely, sparsely punctate dorsally, puncta below shoulders as coarse as above; interstriae convex on dorsum, flat elsewhere, sutural one nearly bare, with minute granules on basal one-half.
Rostral canal open behind, extending onto metasternum without any edges beyond middle coxae; mesosternal process ending at middle of middle coxae. Metepisternum concealed in middle, exposed at either end. Ventrites finely punctate, bare for most part, ventrite 1 at different level with 2, with a pair of tufted tubercles, ventrite 5 with a large, punctate and shiny impression on apical one-half. Hind tibiae with a fringe of long hairs at apical one-quarter of lower edge.
Length: 6.5 mm.
TYPE MATERIAL. — Holotype male, 6.5 x 3.6 mm, data as above, NZAC.
MATERIAL EXAMINED. — New Caledonia. 1 male, Col d’Amieu , 450 m, 31.I.1963, G. Kuschel. 1 specimen .
HOSTPLANTS. — Unknown.
ETYMOLOGY. — The adjective ‘gráphicus’ for picturesque.
REMARKS. — A most distinctive species on account of its design patterns and extension of the rostral canal onto metasternum well beyond the mesosternal process.
