“ Ichthyoxenos hsiakowensis Yu, 1935 ” [ Cymothoidae ]

Remarks: The origins of this species name are unclear; it was entered into the Smithsonian’s World list of Marine, Freshwater and Terrestrial Crustacea Isopoda (no longer an active site) and carried over with that database into WoRMS. The name, however, appears to never have been published by Yü; it was not cited in Trilles’ (1994) overview of all cymothoid taxa, its origin is unknown to Neil Bruce (pers. comm.), and searches of Biodiversity Heritage Library, Google Scholar (excluding websites that were clearly scraping data from WoRMS), and my own substantial collection of PDFs yielded no results. Unfortunately, this name was included in the online supplementary datasets cited in Hartebrodt et al. (2023) but those are nothing more than uncritical data dumps of WoRMS’ isopod data. The name was recently included in a paper by Mitra & Chowdhury (2024) and is a nomen nudum from that paper.
