Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Springer (1982: 70, 71), based on Günther (1877b: 132).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 0.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Comores and Réunion (western Mascarenes) east to Philippines, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Found on deep reefs, 40–421 m depth. Marine.
