Heterotrigona (Platytrigona) lamingtonia (Cockerell) View in CoL
( Figs. 13 View Figures 10–13 , 14 View Figures 14–17 , 21 View Figures 18–21 , 29–33 View Figures 29–30 View Figures 31–33 )
NEW RECORDS: PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Oro Province: 2⚲⚲, Neuguinea [New Guinea], Lejo , 15 km WNW-Popondeta [Oro Province], 16.7.1973 [16 July 1973], Hohmann (SEMC).
COMMENTS: Included are images from a paratype of H. lamingtonia ( Figs. 13 View Figures 10–13 , 14 View Figures 14–17 , 21 View Figures 18–21 ), as well as of workers collected from a nearby locality to the north of Mount Lamington, perhaps no more than 25 km from where the type series was collected. These individuals are less faded and agree in all details with the type series except in more extensive lighter coloration on the head, pleura, and wing venation (cf. Figs. 13 View Figures 10–13 , 14 View Figures 14–17 , 21 View Figures 18–21 vs. 29–33). Both of these color forms have identical structural details and both possess the erect to suberect black setae on the apical metasomal terga that help to distinguish this species from H. keyensis .
