NOTES: G. Lister (1929: 226) commented “In April, 1928, I received from Dr. Hattori, of the Biological Laboratory,

Imperial Palace , Tokyo Japan, two specimens of Mycetozoa”, one of them was this Hemitrichia . She later states “In

August, 1928, I received from Dr. Hattori a further specimen of the Hemitrichia , which had developed in his laboratory from a culture of spores taken from the former gathering.” and under habitat of the species noted “On decayed Wood in the grounds of the Imperial Palace, Tokyo, Japan.” Fig.1 View FIGURE 1 of the publication illustrates “Group of sporangia from Dr .

Hattori’s spore culture”. In BM there are 2 boxes, BM 4067 , of material received April 1928, and BM 4068 received

August, 1928 from the culture. BM 4067 is in good condition and is the first specimen to be examined by G.Lister and we select this as the lectotype. In the Showa Memorial Institute ( SMI), Tsukuba Research Center of the National

Science Museum , Tokyo ( TNS) specimens TNS – M 1519 , 1520 About TNS , 1521 About TNS , 1522 About TNS from April 1928 ( Hagiwara, 2005) are conserved and may be duplicates of the lectotype designated here. In notebook XLIV: 187–191, 195 there are notes and illustrations of collection BM 4067 , material collected and presented to the British Museum by the Emperor himself in

April 1928. The taxonomic value of this species is doubtful and some authors have transferred it to the genus Arcyria

( Wang & Li, 2006), and others like Nannenga-Bremekamp (1982) consider it to be a synonym of Arcyria stipata

(Schwein.) Lister.
