Graphocaecilius mockfordi View in CoL n. sp.
( Figs 1–10 View FIGURES 1 – 5 View FIGURES 6 – 10 )
Diagnosis. Differing from G. interpretatus Roesler (1940) , G. p i c t u s Mockford & Sullivan (1986), and G. trypetoides Enderlein (1900) , in having the forewings hyaline, lacking pigmented areas. It differs from G. enderleini Williner (1949) , in lacking a brown spot at the fused Rs-M, and in having the areola postica taller and narrower. It differs from G. lacteus ( Williner, 1949) , in having the fused Rs-M shorter, and in having the areola postica distinctly narrower. It differs from G. peruvianus Mockford & Sullivan (1986) , in having the hypandrium with a well defined posterior projection, in having the phallosome anteriorly unstemmed, in having the endophallus distinctly different (compare Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 in this paper with Fig. 21 View FIGURES 21 – 25 in Mockford & Sullivan, 1986), and in lacking the broad, rugose, clunial projections over the area of the paraprocts. Differing from G. v a r t yi Turner (1984), in lacking a crescent shaped, clear membranous area in the mid clunium and projections over the area of the paraprocts, and in the shape of the hypandrium and endophallic sclerites.
Male. Color. Body tawny brown, compound eyes black, legs yellow, forewings pale yellowish; hindwings almost transparent. Tergal lobes of meso- and metathorax pale brown, abdomen creamy. Clunial projection brown.
Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: head vertex almost straight; upper border of compound eyes below the level of the vertex, with interommatidial setae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Forewing L/W: 2.49, with setae in the veins except for Cu2; lp/wp: 3.05, pterostigma without setae in the membrane, areola postica triangular ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Hindwing ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ), L/W: 2.67. Hypandrium ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ), distinctly projected posteriorly. Arms of the phallosome aedeagal arch proximally wide; endophallus with minute denticles and two groups of sclerites: the anterior one with two denticles, and the posterior with seven, disposed as illustrated ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). External parameres bearing pores distally ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Posterior border of clunium projected over the area of the epiproct, covering about one fifth of its length ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Clunium not projected over the area of the paraprocts ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ), these broad, elongate, with setae as illustrated; sensory fields with 16–19 trichobothria in basal rosettes. Epiproct ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) anteriorly straight, posteriorly rounded, with macrosetae as illustrated.

Female. Color. Same as the male ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 26 – 28. 26 ); abdomen creamy, with transverse, subcuticular pale brown bands. Clunium brown; epiproct pale brown, paraprocts creamy with pale brown spots. Subgenital plate pale brown with a median apical creamy longitudinal band ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ).
Morphology. Head as in the male, compound eyes smaller than in male, below the level of the vertex ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ). Forewing L/W: 2.59. Pterostigma, lp/wp: 3.33. Areola postica triangular, not slanted posteriorly ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ). Hindwing L/W: 2.74 ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ). Subgenital plate ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ), densely setose, with sides converging to a straight posterior border; a longitudinal slender band next to posterior border; IX sternum ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ) well developed, slightly pigmented, with a rectangular anterior projection. Gonapophyses ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ), with v1 elongate, slender, joined to clunium; v2 +3 with anterior half hyaline, posterior half pigmented, slightly projected distally, bearing a row of setae along posterior border. Paraprocts ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ) twice as long as wide, rhomboid, with setae as illustrated; sensory fields with 14 trichobothria issuing from basal rosettes ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ). Epiproct broadly triangular, anteriorly convex, setae as illustrated ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 10 ).

Etymology. This species is dedicated to Dr. Edward L. Mockford, of Illinois State University, in recognition to his many and fundamental studies on the taxonomy of ‘Psocoptera’, including his foundational work on the taxonomy of the Graphocaeciliine psocids, in collaboration with Mr. D. M. Sullivan, formerly of Illinois State University.
