Goniagnathus (Tropicognathus) viraktamathi View in CoL sp. n.

(Plate I, Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 )

Length (including tegmen): 6.1mm.

Brown, speckled with darker brown (Plate I: A). Anterior margin of head creamy white, transverse stripe across ocelli, thin short transverse stripe between eye and ocellus (Plate I: B). Transverse stripes on frontoclypeus, dark brown (Plate I: D).

Pronotum about 2.5x as long as crown (Plate I: B). Forewing macropterous with inner anteapical cell closed behind by one cross vein (Plate I: A).

PLATE I. Goniagnathus (Tropicognathus) viraktamathi sp. n. A: habitus, dorsal view; B: head and thorax, dorsal view; C: the end of female abdomen, ventral view; D: face.

Male genitalia. Pygofer side with caudal lobe rounded, ventral margin concave, with a few macrosetae before caudal margin; dorsocaudal appendage half as long as pygofer side, middle swollen, caudally narrowed and slightly ventrally curved ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A). Fused subgenital plates with slightly concave caudal margin ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B). Apophysis of style foot-like ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C). Aedeagal shaft arcuate, bifid apically extending beyond gonopore, with one pair of lateral appendages reaching apex of shaft, each appendage twisted, slightly laterally curved, widest near base, tapered distally ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 D, 1E).

Female. Seventh sternite broader than median length, hind margin concave, with W-shaped median lobe (Plate I: C).

Type. Holotype: m#, China, Yunnan Prov., Mengla County, Mengyuan, 2005-VII-28, coll. Lu Lin ( NWAFU). Paratypes: China, 1f#, same data as holotype; 1f#, Yunnan Prov., Mengla County, Yaoqu, 600m, 1991-V-07, coll. Wang Yinglun & Tian Rungang ( NWAFU).

Remarks. The new species does not key beyond couplet 3 in the key to Chinese species of Goniagnathus by Duan et al. (2009). It does however resemble Goniagnathus (Tropicognathus) nepalicus Viraktamath & Gnaneswaran (2009) from Nepal, but can be distinguished from the latter by: 1) pygofer side dorsal appendage swollen at midlength ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A); 2) fused subgenital plate with slightly concave caudal margin ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B); 3) apophysis of style foot-like ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C); 4) aedeagal shaft arcuate with distal half bifurcate ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 D, 1E).

The female paratypes have been associated with the male holotype based on overall appearance and locality. Etymology. This species is named after Dr. C. A. Viraktamath for his contributions to the taxonomy of Oriental leafhoppers.
