Gonatopus julianae sp. nov. ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 , 4 View FIGURE 4 )
Female. Apterous; length 5.31 mm. Head black; sides of clypeus yellow and distal half of mandibles testaceous; antennae brown; mesosoma black; metasoma brownblack; legs brown, with junctions, tarsi and stalks of femora testaceous. Antennae clavate; antennal segments in the following proportions: 10:6:24:14:11:9:8:7:6:7. Head excavated, dull, strongly granulated; frontal line almost complete, partly missing in the anterior half of the frons, where it is substituted by irregular short striae; occipital carina absent; temples distinct; POL = 2; OL = 2; OOL = 10; maxillary palpi with 6 segments; labial palpi with 3 segments. Pronotum dull, hairy, crossed by a strong transverse impression, strongly granulated. Scutum dull, strongly granulated, with two strong lateral apophyses situated on the sides of the scutellum. Scutellum dull, granulated, inclined. Metanotum dull, not hollow behind the scutellum, inclined, strongly granulated. Metathorax + propodeum dull, hairy, completely strongly granulated, with posterior surface not transversely striate, except for a few transverse striae situated near the posterior extremity. Mesopleura and metapleura dull, strongly granulated, not transversely striate. Mesometapleural suture obsolete. Fore tarsal segments in the following proportions: 16:3.5:5.5:20:30. Enlarged claw ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ) sickle shaped, with a very small subdistal tooth and a row of 7 lamellae. Segment 5 of front tarsus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ) with two rows of 15 + 5 lamellae; distal apex with a group of at least 32 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1, 0, 1.
Male. Unknown.
Type material. Female holotype: Argentina, Catamarca Province, El Rodeo (28°13’ S. 65°52’ W 1250 m.o.s.l), 27.II.1999, E. Virla coll. (in the collection of Instituto de Entomología y Fundación Miguel Lillo, Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, Argentina).
Etymology. The species is named after Miss Juliana Virla.
Remarks. G. julianae belongs to Gonatopus sensu stricto (orbitalis group). The new species can be included in the key to the females of the Neotropical Gonatopus sensu stricto ( Olmi, 1990) by replacing couplet 41 as follows:
