Glyphepomis dubia Campos & Souza sp. nov.
Etymology. Name allusive to the morphological similarity between the new species and G. s p i n o s a (dubius, L. doubtful, wavering).
Distribution. Brazil: Maranhão.
Type material. Holotype: ♂ BRAZIL, Maranhão, Arari, 01/VIII/2012, Souza, J. R. col. ( MZUSP)
Paratypes: Brazil, Maranhão, Arari, 01/VIII/2012, Souza, J. R. col. ( UFRG 1♂, 2♀) ( AMNH 1♂, 1♀) ( MCNZ 2♂, 3♀).
Description. (Fig. 2 A) Body surface densely punctured; dorsal color dark brown to black; venter black except for the lateral portions of thorax and abdomen, these light brown with black punctures. Head longer than wide. Antennal segment IV dorsoventrally compressed, bearing dorsal groove. Proportion of antennal segments: I>II<III>IV<V. Rostrum reaching the base of abdomen. Proportion of rostral segments: I<II>III>IV. Pronotum strongly declivous anterior to humeral angles; subapical projections near anterolateral angles as small spine. Anterolateral margins rounded, not emarginate. Humeral angles slightly projected varying from acute to rounded apex. Cicatrices slightly tumid, not clearly delimited. Scutellum bearing small pale yellow callose close to fovea. Hemelytra bearing conspicuous yellowish spot at apex of radial vein. Femurs dark at apex. Posterolateral angles of urosternite VII rounded in females.
Male genitalia. (Figs. 2 B–E; 5 A–C) Pygophore quadrangular, posterolateral angles auriculate. Genital cup well exposed dorsally. Superior layer of ventral rim slightly sinuous; 1+1 conical projections lateral to the X segment anteriorly directed, bearing one tubercle on the outer edge. Segment X carinated at anterior third; surface of segment X anteriorly striated and punctured posteriorly. Parameres reduced, quadrangular. Phallus. Lateral margins of phallotheca overlapping the base of lateral processes of conjunctiva. Ventral movable processes of phallotheca strongly curved dorsally, shorter than lateral processes of conjunctiva, and reaching the base of ductus seminis distalis. Apex of dorsolateral processes of conjunctiva single and acute, surpassing posterior limit of vesica.
Female genitalia. ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 A; 7 A) Posterior margin of gonocoxites 8 slightly sinuous, sutural angles weakly projected; laterotergites 8 longer than wide, apex rounded, slightly longer than the laterotergites 9; gonocoxites 9 posterior margin convex and tumescent; segment X quadrangular. Lateral projections of laterotergites 9 short, reaching midline of secondary thickenings of gonapophyses 9; ductus receptaculi proximal and distal to vesicular area as wide as the median tube of vesicular area. Vesicular area and ductus receptaculi distal to vesicular area subequal in length. Ring sclerites oval; 1+1 secondary thickenings of the gonapophyses 9 subtriangular, adjacent to ring sclerites. Anterior annular flange conspicuous, anteriorly directed; pars intermedialis longer than wide, wider near posterior annular flange, constricted distally; posterior annular flange transversal to duct; capsula seminalis hemispherical, lacking processes.
Comments. Species similar to G. s p i n o s a by presenting the anterior lateral margins of pronotum not emarginated. The two species are distinguished by the shape and extent of humeral angles, and the posterior margin of urosternite VII not sharp nor projected in G. dubia sp. nov.
FIGURE 2. Glyphepomis dubia sp. nov. A: Male, dorsal. B–E: pygophore, B, C: dorsal, D: ventral, E: posterior (cp: conical projection; dr: dorsal rim; ilvr: inferior layer of ventral rim; slvr: superior layer of ventral rim; X: segment X). Scale bars: A = 1.0 mm, B–E = 0.5 mm.
