Type Locality: Sudan, Jebel Meidob, El Malha.

Vernacular Names: Principal Gerbil.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality.

Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.

Discussion: Subgenus Hendecapleura . This species has been associated with G. nanus or G. watersi , but Lay (1983) regarded it as valid pending systematic revision. See the discussion in Pavlinov et al. (1990).
