Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographes in June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14, as G. melanospillos ).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Philippines, New Guinea and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Usually in groups, on slopes of seaward coral reefs, 20–45 m depth. Marine.
