Gasteruption sartor Schletterer, 1890 ( Fig. 21 View FIGURE 21 )

Gasteruption sartor Schletterer, 1890: 387 (in key), 476–477 (description); Semenow, 1892: 27 (Gasteryption misprint, catalog); Dalla Torre, 1902: 1072 (catalog); Kieffer, 1902: 9 (catalog); Schulz, 1906: 134 ( Gasteruptium misprint, catalog); Kieffer, 1912: 238 (in key), 316 (redescription); Hedicke, 1939: 36 (catalog); De Santis, 1980: 297 (catalog); Macedo, 2009: 7 (cladistic analysis).

Diagnosis. Differs from G. hansoni by the mesonotum rounded ( Fig. 21d View FIGURE 21 ); the mesoscutum punctate ( Fig. 21c View FIGURE 21 ), with irregular striae; and the mesosoma usually dark brown to black dorsally, and yellow brown to red brown laterally. Differs from other Neotropical species by the ovipositor sheath mostly yellow brown, with the base dark brown (or entirely yellow brown), and longer than the metasoma.

Redescription. Female ( Figs. 21e–f View FIGURE 21 ). Length: 16.2 mm (11.2–18.2 mm) (n=13); ovipositor sheath length 0.99 (0.82–1.10) × body length.

Head. Subtrapezoidal in dorsal view, wider than long ( Fig. 21a View FIGURE 21 ), punctulate, with or without fine irregular striae in vertex and frons; mandible pre-apical tooth distinct; malar space short, almost separated from gena; posterior ocellus inserted at the level of upper eye margin; occipital carina narrow dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 21b View FIGURE 21 ). Head length 1.21 (1.10–1.27) × eye length; eye length 20.62 (15.00–26.67) × malar space; distance from posterior ocellus to occipital margin 1.86 (1.63–2.00) × distance between posterior ocelli; 1 st flagellomere 1.30 (1.07–1.38) × as long as scape, 1.78 (1.50–2.00) × as long as pedicel, 0.69 (0.60–0.77) × as long as 2 nd flagellomere. Color: black or dark brown, clypeus yellow brown to dark brown, scape red brown, pedicel and flagellomeres 1–2 dark brown, remaining flagellum gradually from dark brown to yellow brown.

Mesosoma. Propleuron imbricate, with irregular striae; pronotal process distinct; pronotum imbricate rugulose, area between lobes crenulate; mesonotum rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 21d View FIGURE 21 ); mesoscutum punctate, with irregular striae ( Fig. 21c View FIGURE 21 ); mesoscutelum rugulose; mesepisternum rugulose dorsally and areolate ventrally; mesepimeron scrobiculate; metapleuron areolate, ventral region with a reduced smooth (or rugulose) portion; propodeum areolate, longitudinal carina indistinct; metacoxa finely striate. Mesosoma (excluding propleuron) 1.84 (1.70–1.97) × as long as high; propleuron 1.58 (1.50–1.68) × longer than its largest wide, 1.11 (0.94–1.37) × pronotum length; metacoxa 3.44 (3.14–3.76) × as long as wide; metatibia 5.80 (5.39–6.07) × as long as wide, 1.41 (1.37–1.44) × as long as femur, 2.56 (2.46–2.66) × as long as 1 st tarsomere. Fore wing discal cell subtrapezoidal; hind wing with 3 hamuli, not equidistant. Color: propleuron and mesonotum dark brown to black; pronotum, mesopleuron, metapleuron and propodeum yellow brown to red brown (rarely dark brown); fore and middle legs with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia yellow brown to red brown, tibia with a yellow longitudinal stripe, tarsus yellow; hind leg with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia yellow brown to dark brown, subbasal portion of tibia yellow, tarsus yellow, with 5 th tarsomere dark brown distally.

Metasoma. Imbricate, 3.28 (3.13–3.40) × as long as mesosoma; subgenital sternun notched, Y-shaped; ovipositor sheath 1.53 (1.43–1.68) × as long as metasoma. Color: yellow brown to dark brown (rarely black); ovipositor sheath mostly yellow brown, with base dark brown (or entirely yellow brown).

Male. First record. Similar to female; hind tarsus from partially yellow to entirely dark brown.

Geographic distribution: Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico (Chiapas), Panama, Peru, Venezuela.
