Eurhopalothrix depressa Ketterl, Verhaag & Dietz, 2004: 45 , figs. 23. Holotype worker: Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, São Francisco de Paula, Araucaria forest reserve Pró-Mata, 29°30'S 50°10'W, 3 Apr 1997, in leaf litter of an Araucaria forest (J. Ketterl) [MZSP] (not examined). Paratypes: 2 workers from same locality [LPB, SMNK]; 1 worker and 2 queens, São Paulo: Cunha, Pico de Macela, 23°08'S 44°48'W, 21-22 Apr 2001 (A. A. Tavares & R. R. Silva) [MZSP].
Geographic range. Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo).
Comments. This is a highly distinctive species, one of only two New World species with a transverse ridge on the frons, the other species being E. cimu from Cuba. Eurhopalothrix depressa has 16 erect spatulate setae on the face; E. cimu has none.
