Genus Epiplatypus Wood, 1993 View in CoL
Epiplatypus brasiliensis (Nunberg, 1959)
Notes. Known from Brazil and Peru. Los Amigos Biological Station specimens are from FIT and Malaise traps. One additional male was reared by Berkov and Centeno from Los Amigos, from cut branches of Eschweilera coriacea (DC.) S. A. Mori (Lecythidaceae) Nov. 2003 – Jan. 2004 (LRKC). This species was included in his new genus Epiplatypus by Wood (1993) with no comment, but it is doubtful that he saw specimens. It clearly is more closely related to species in his genus Teloplatypus and probably should be transferred to that genus. However, the two genera are difficult to separate, and the boundary between them is unclear.
* Epiplatypus secus ( Wood, 1971) View in CoL
Notes. The Peru record of this distinctive species is the first since the type series was collected in Venezuela: Junín, 15 km NW from Satipo, Río Venado village environs, 1,300 m, window trap, −11.2811°, −74.7686°, 3.X.2015, A. Petrov (1 male, AVPC). As mentioned in the original description, this is a unique species in appearance ( Wood 1971). Wood (1993) placed it in Epiplatypus View in CoL , but E. secus View in CoL is significantly different from all other Epiplatypus View in CoL known to me except E. pernudus (Schedl) .
(**) Epiplatypus LRK 010
Notes. A mid-elevation species, apparently undescribed; the species is not represented in the Schedl collection ( NHMW) or the Wood collection ( USNM). I have two collections of this species from Costa Rica, taken at 1,500– 1,800 m in cloud forest ( LRKC, INBIO). The single specimen from Peru was taken at 1,100 m: Cuzco, [Paucartambo,] Cock of the Rock Lodge , −13.055°, −71.545°, 1,120 m, FIT, 4–9 Nov. 2007, David Brzoska ( SEMC). It is most similar to the Amazonian species E. quadrispinatus (Chapuis) .
