Type:— PERU. Amazonas: Prov. Chachapoyas: middle eastern Calla Calla sloptes, near km 415–418 of Leimebamba–Balsas road, 2900– 3150 m, 20 August 1962, J . Wurdack 1735, (holotype: US! isotype: USM!) .

Distribution:— Peru, in the department of Amazonas. The species is restricted to the eastern slopes of the Andes in wet montane forests.

Notes:— Epidendrum ypsilum is recognized by its ca. 2 m high plants, with narrowly oblong or oblong-lanceolate leaves, the greenish yellow flowers with sparse wine-colored maculae, the lip with short, radiating wine-colored lines, and the sepals 6.2-7 mm long. In the subgroup Soratae there are 2 species of similar size: E. chrysomyristicum and E. fruticulus , but these species have slightly larger flowers with immaculate sepals, 9-13 mm long.

Conservation Status:— DD. Data deficient. As most orchids, listed in CITES appendix II.

Examined specimens: — PERU. Abra Barro Negro, carretera de Celedín hacia Leimebamba, Cordillera Calla Calla, 3424 m, 6 October 2020, Ocupa 269 ( HUT!) .
