Type locality: South Africa, Kimbolton .
Imago (Fig. 69): Wingspan 18mm. Head fuscous; labial palpus fuscous, segment 3 of similar length to segment 2; maxillary palpus short; antenna fuscous. Thorax fuscous. Forewing predominantly fuscous; indistinct whitish median fascia; whitish narrow subterminal fascia; terminal cilia with dark fuscous line. Hindwing pale fuscous; a trace of divergent whitish lines, similar to those found in Elophila spp.
Male genitalia (Fig. 127): Uncus slender; gnathos ¾ uncus, spines near apex; valva broadened in middle, a process arising towards the termen bearing about three specialised setae which are elbowed and reach more than halfway along valva; juxta broad at base then produced towards uncus; aedeagus simple. Sternum 8 weakly defined, bluntly pointed at posterior end.
Female genitalia: Unknown.
Tympanal organs: Venulae long, strong, distinctly waisted.
Diagnosis: Similar to E. leucostrialis in the lack of terminal eyespots on the hindwing, but the hindwing is predominantly pale fuscous.
Biology: Unknown.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Material examined: Holotype: Kimbolton , Estcourt, Natal , Hutchinson , 1891. Syntype, same data + BMNH Pyralidae slide 21343 ♂ .
