Type locality. Near Village Duca degli Abruzzi (=Jowhar, 45°30ʹE, 2°47ʹN), Southern Somalia. (repository unknown).
Remarks. Dworakowska (1971) grouped this species with E. (M.) onukii Matsuda, 1952 , E. (M.) aino Matsumura, 1931 , and E. (M.) diversa Vilbaste, 1968 as the Empoasca aino group, which is characterized by the peculiar structure of the subgenital plate.
Distribution. Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, Zambia, Congo, Zaire.
