Emphytopsis quadrata Wei & Xu , sp. nov. (Fig. 2)

Description: Holotype: Ƥ.

Body length 10 mm. Pale yellow brown; ocellar spot, obscure spot on postocellar area (Fig. 2b), apex of mandible, lateral stripe on pronotum, outer side of propleuron, elliptical spot on prescutum, one large elongated spot connected to one small round spot on each lobe of scutum, mesopostnotum largely, small spot near cenchrus, a pair of small spots on posterior part of metapostnotum, ventral side of mesepisternum, a stripe on posterior margin of mesepimeron (Fig. 2c), a pair of broad maculae on posterior halves of abdominal tergites 1–8 and apical sheath black; ventral parts of abdominal tergites entirely yellow brown (Fig. 2d); distance between two black maculae on each tergite longer than diameter of middle ocellus, spots on tergite 2 very small. Legs pale yellow, apical 0.3 of hind femur, apical 0.25 of hind tibia black. Antenna black brown, basal 3 or 4 antennomeres paler. Body hairs silver. Wings hyaline, base and apex of vein C, basal 0.4 of stigma pale brown, apical 0.6 of stigma and other veins blackish brown (Fig. 2a).

Clypeus sparsely punctured; postocellar area minutely and sparsely punctured, head otherwise polished, shiny; mesonotum scarcely and minutely punctured, posterior half of mesoscutellum and posttergite with some larger punctures; metanotum strongly shiny; mesepisternum minutely and sparsely punctured, interspaces between punctures very broad, polished; metapleuron finely microsculptured; all abdominal tergites finely microsculptured, with some shallow and indistinct punctures.

Anterior margin of labrum roundly protruding, anterior margin of clypeus deeply incised to 0.65× clypeus length (Fig. 2e); malar space as long as radius of middle ocellus; POL: OOL: OCL = 13: 22: 27; postocellar area weakly elevated, as long as wide, lateral furrows feebly curved, slightly convergent toward posterior margin of head; head behind eyes in dorsal view clearly shorter than eye (9: 14), lateral sides straight, parallel (Fig. 2b). Relative length of antennomeres about 8: 4: 15: 12: 10: 7: 6: 5: 6. Mesoscutellum roundly elevated, posterior slope shorter than anterior slope; distance between cenchri 1.6× longest axis of a cenchrus; mesepisternum indistinctly elevated. Hind basitarsus as long as tarsomeres 2–5 together; claw with inner tooth slightly shorter than outer tooth. Vein R+M in forewing as long as half length of free sector of Sc, lower outer corner of cell 2Rs weakly extended, vein 2r joining cell 2Rs at about middle. Petiole of anal cell in hind wing 0.25× length of vein cu-a. Ovipositor sheath as long as metabasitarsus, apical sheath as long as basal plate, lateral view as in Fig. 2f; apical sheath about 2× as wide as cercus in dorsal view, setae on lateral sides of sheath short, hardly curved. Lancet with 18 serrulae, membrane between 8th and 9th serrulae slightly longer than width of a serrula, 5th–7th serrulae as in Fig. 2g, each with 6 large subbasal teeth at about same level; 11th–13th serrulae as in Fig. 2h.

Male: Unknown.

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the quadrate postocellar area of the new species and is to be treated as an adjective.

Specimen examined: Holotype, Ƥ, Tiantangzhai (115º47.335´E, 31º08.679´N), Jinzhai, Anhui Province,, alt. 1220 m, 2 June, 2006, Gengyun Niu (CSCS). Paratypes: 1Ƥ, same data as holotype, but leg. Hu Zhou; 4Ƥ, Tiantangzhai (15º47.220´E, 31º08.315´N), Jinzhai, Anhui Province,, alt. 1000 m, 2 June, 2006, Gengyun Niu, Hu Zhou, Zejian Li (CSCS).

Distribution: China (Anhui).

Remarks: This new species is close to E. nigricornis Wei & Xu , sp. nov. See the above key for the differences between the two species.
