( Figs 21A–C View FIGURE 21 )

Holotype. (♀) Malaysia: SE Sabah, nr Danum Valley Field C, Mal. trap 7, c 150 m, 21–25.iii.1987, C. van Achterberg, RMNH´1987 (Leiden)

Etymology. The species name refers to the black hind femur.

Description. ♀. Body length 12.3 mm.

Head. Flagellum with 40 flagellomeres, slightly lanceolate; 1 st flagellomere 4.0 × longer than wide, widest flagellomere 1.4 × wider than long. Temple rather short, strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye. OED 1.6 × and OOD 0.8 × ocellar diameter. Frons concave, with microsculpture, dorsally with some superficial punctures. Face densely but superficially punctate medially, almost smooth laterally. Clypeus large, flat, with sparse superficial punctures; apical margin sharp, moderately rounded (fig. 21A). Mandible seen from frontal sickle-shaped, with two teeth, ventral tooth smaller and strongly bent inwards (fig. 21A). Malar space 0.9 × as long as width of mandibular base. Gena with fine dense punctures. Genal carina reaching mandibular base.

Mesosoma . Densely covered with setae; setae blackish on mesoscutum and scutellum, otherwise pale. Mesoscutum finely punctate, dull. Notaulus impressed in frontal 1/4 of mesoscutum. Mesopleuron rugose- punctate and striate ventrally, punctate dorsally; speculum with fine punctures. Metapleuron ± striate. Juxtacoxal carina present. Scutellum pyramidal, slightly longer than wide, rugosely punctate, with strong lateral carina forming slightly raised lamella apically. Propodeum completely carinated, punctate, with strong apophysis (fig. 21B); spiracle slit-shaped. Area superomedia slightly longer than wide; costula reaching at its basal 0.25. Legs slender; hind coxa punctate, without scopa. Hind femur 5.9 × longer than wide. Claws simple, strongly bent (by 90°) apically. Areolet pentagonal, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 2.0 × their width. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 2.0 × its width.

Metasoma. Postpetiole moderately widened, almost smooth. 2 nd tergite about as long as wide. Gastrocoelus narrow and elongate, with some fine ridges. Thyridium slightly oblique, 0.7 × as wide as interval between thyridia (fig. 21C). 2 nd and 3 rd tergites finely and densely punctate, ± dull; following tergites with superficial punctures and shining. Ovipositor sheath reaching behind metasomal apex by length of 2 nd hind tarsomere.

Colour. Red. Flagellum black, flagellomeres 7–12 ivory dorsally. Palps pale yellow. Mandible except teeth, clypeus and face reddish-yellow; facial orbit yellowish. Mid tarsus ± brownish; hind leg except red hind coxa blackish. Wings yellowish; pterostigma ochreous.

♀ unknown.

Remarks. This new species differs from other Eccoptosage species with entirely red mesosoma and metasoma by its black hind legs.

Distribution. Only known from Borneo.
