Material examined. MEXICO. Veracruz: 1 ♂ ( UNAM) NE of San Andrés Tuxtla , Biological Station Los Tuxtlas , 230 m, selva alta perennifolia, Malaise trap, 3–16.iii.2014, coll. M. Madora. 2 ♂ ( UNAM, ZISP) same data, but 31.iii–16.iv.2014.
Remarks. The species belongs to the zonatus species-group, defined by Gauld (1991) for three species occurring in Costa Rica, having a vespid mimicking males with specialized fore trochanters and coxae, and females with ovipositor sheath sparsely and shortly hirsute.
One female, paralectotype of Ephialtes annulicornis Cameron , actually belong to this species ( Gauld 1991: 218, 222).
Status of two South American subspecies, D. zonatus coracinus (Schmiedeknecht, 1906) from Peru and D. zonatus sannio (Enderlein, 1919) from Ecuador, requires investigation ( Gauld 1991).
Distribution. Mexico (Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco), Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama,? Ecuador,? Peru.
