Species recognition. This species differs from the similar D. erotesis by the color pattern of the abdominal tergites and the shorter dorsal carina.
Description. Body length: 2.66–2.75 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, except light brown on anterior margin and around bases of setae, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron yellowish-brown, except proepisternum brown, dorsum of anepisternum dark brown. Mean costal length 0.52 wing length, range 0.51–0.53. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown, except dorsoapical margin of hind femur dark brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, with ventral projection. Posterior face of hind femur with basal, dorsoventrally oriented group of peglike setae; tooth of ventral concavity projecting ventrally, carinate; carina elongate, curved, reaching mid-depth of femur ( Figs 129–130). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, tergites 2–6 mostly yellow, with dark brown, medially transverse lateral markings ( Fig. 318). Venter of abdomen yellow, with sparse setae. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.
Distribution. Known from a single mid-elevation site in Costa Rica.
Derivation of specific epithet. Named for the type locality.
Holotype. ♂, COSTA RICA: Braulio Carrillo NP, 8.5 km E Tunel , 1000 m, ix.1989, P. Hanson, Malaise trap [ LACM ENT 113196 About LACM ] ( LACM).
Paratype. 1♂, same data as holotype ( LACM) .
